Meet The Directors

David Fried

Owner / Director

From the time he was five years old, overnight camp has been at the center of David Fried’s life. What began as childhood summers away from home grew into a lifelong calling—one that has defined who he is as a leader, mentor, and parent.

David brings more than 25 years of experience in competitive sports, community leadership, and overnight camping to Berkshire Trails. For 22 years, he proudly served as Director of Camp Shalom in Florida, where he created a thriving overnight camp community built on friendship, inclusion, and spirited fun. Most recently, David held Chief Officer roles within the JCC movement, overseeing large-scale programs, membership and facility expansion and helping to shape the next generation of youth and family experiences.

Beyond the camp world, David has earned National and International recognition in the sport of flag football. A member of the Flag Football Hall of Fame, he has coached Team USA Mens and Womens National Teams, taken teams to 23 countries around the world, and captured eight national championships during his 20-year coaching career. His passion for sports and competition perfectly complements his camp philosophy—teaching young people teamwork, resilience, and confidence through active play and positive coaching.

David, known around camp as “Fried”, is known for his detailed planning, fun demeanor, exciting programming and overall gregarious personality. David’s love for camp and sports is matched only by his love for family. He and his wife Jenn, along with their two children, Brody and Sami, are thrilled to call Berkshire Trails their summer home. Together, they bring the same energy, warmth, and authenticity to camp life that have defined David’s career and inspired thousands of campers and families along the way.
